B12 #43: B is for Boxing Day

I got gobsmacked by a nap attack when I sat down in the recliner to watch part of the rebroadcast of the Opening Ceremonies. Darn!

Boxing Day is the day after Christmas. It gets its name because back in the days of Victorian England, it used to be customary for the lord and lady of the manor to box up some of the Christmas dinner and give it to the servants.

In the later years of the Roman Empire, it was also customary for boxes to be set up outside of churches for an offering related to the feast of St. Stephen.
